Rebarbative Religion
I am an atheist. Nothing anybody says can change this, for i understand religion and it’s many trappings of spirit and belief.
Science is and always has been the only way forwards. Take the Aztecs for example, they believed that there was a god to make the sun rise and set. They believed this because they had no other explanation. Some people need an explanation for things, weak people who cant cope with just not knowing stuff for certain.
Religion is for those who need it, it provides comfort like a old piece of rag that a toddler walks around with. People in need often reach to “GOD” for assurance or comfort. This a good purpose of religion, but does not give anybody the right to shove it in my face! I get quite offended when people question my beliefs as if I’m stupid for not believing in god, this however in definitely not the case; I have looked at the facts. I’m not sure i can name one book that was written by a follower about his leader that did not exaggerate things. I have no doubt that Jesus existed and was a fairly nice bloke, pissed off some king or whatever and got nailed to some wood for it.
When you ask a believer to prove the existence of god or ask them how they know he exists will say “proof denies faith and without faith, god is nothing”. So anybody can believe in god and not have to prove anything just occasionally say “I just know, OK?!”. There are a few people that if you push them will tell you about miracles, like peoples legs growing or cancer disappearing overnight. This however a mixture between hypocrisy and circular belief. Firstly, MIRICALS ARE PROOF, god doesn’t give proof! Circular belief is basically wishing for something to happen, waiting until it does, tell people all about it and don’t tell them/forget about all the times it didn’t work. I’m willing to bet that every church has at least one person with cancer in it and all the other people in that church pray for them regularly why doesn’t everyone get cured then? why is it only a few? the people who are cured are preached about and shown around as proof of god (hypocritical) and they neglect to tell anybody of all the people who had cancer in their church and died. Also most believers think that it was god that cured the person of cancer, sometimes it just goes away and of course the person was receiving medical treatment as well as prayer. Surely it is more likely that the medics cured them?
